A taste of the Future at Words Out Loud

Fifteen of Weathering the Future’s writers presented their work at Words Out Loud on Thursday 15 November, and what really stood out was how effective these pieces are as standalones.

We’re looking forward to seeing how the written works are enhanced in the gallery when they are placed next to their corresponding art works.

Kirstyn McDermott brought art into the reading, folding up her poem as she read it, a correlation to her art work, which employs many pieces of paper folded into shapes and strung together. It’s an impressive piece that needs to be seen in the flesh.

Reuben Morgan’s “Mother Earth”

Ballarat musician and composer Reuben Morgan

We are absolutely thrilled that Ballarat composer and musician Reuben Morgan (of the BallaRat Pack) has crafted a six-minute piece, “Mother Earth”, to accompany the exhibition.

Reuben is to be joined by some friends at the launch on 8 December to play his composition, which we’re all looking forward to.

Meantime, here’s a sample of “Mother Earth”, with some teasers from the exhibition. Sadly, I’m not much of a video clip producer, but I hope this paints a favourable impression!
